Residents of Zirin Mahauta community in Lakwaya Ward, Gwarzo Local Government Area of Kano State, have been thrown into fear following a fresh attack by suspected bandits, during which four persons two men and two women were abducted.
The incident, which occurred on Wednesday, heightened tension in the area and prompted swift response from both the Kano State Government and the Gwarzo Local Government Authority.
Reacting to the attack, the Executive Chairman of Gwarzo Local Government, Dr. Mani Tsoho, through his Vice Chairman, Hon. Abdulminin Garba Lakwaya, expressed sympathy with the affected community and families of the victims.
He disclosed that two of the abducted victims, both women, have since been released, while efforts are ongoing to secure the rescue of the two male victims still being held by the attackers.
Dr. Tsoho described the incident as disturbing and reassured residents of Lakwaya Ward and the entire Gwarzo Local Government Area of the government’s commitment to protecting lives and property.
According to him, the local government has intensified collaboration with security agencies through increased patrols, intelligence gathering and proactive security measures to prevent further attacks and restore peace in the area.
He urged residents to continue cooperating with security operatives by providing timely and credible information on suspicious activities, while cautioning against the spread of rumours capable of creating panic and undermining security efforts.
The chairman also revealed that security agencies have been provided with the necessary directives and logistical support to intensify operations, track down the perpetrators, dismantle their hideouts and ensure the safe rescue of the remaining victims.
He further said the local government is strengthening collaboration with traditional rulers, community leaders, ward heads and youth groups to enhance information sharing and enforce preventive measures, especially in rural communities.
Issuing a warning to criminal elements, Dr. Tsoho declared that Gwarzo Local Government will not serve as a safe haven for bandits, stressing that anyone involved in criminal activities would face the full weight of the law.
He commended the efforts of security personnel and called on residents to pray for lasting peace in Gwarzo Local Government Area, Kano State and the country at large.
