The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reaffirmed the legitimacy of its National Caretaker Committee and scheduled the party’s National Convention for March 28 and 29, 2026.
The resolutions were adopted during the party’s 105th NEC meeting held in Abuja on Monday.
NEC members unanimously endorsed all decisions taken at the emergency 104th meeting convened on December 7, 2025, declaring them valid and binding on all party organs.
In line with a recent Federal High Court ruling in Ibadan, which affirmed the legality of the PDP’s existing leadership arrangement, the NEC directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognise the Abdulrahman Muhammed-led National Caretaker Committee as the party’s lawful administrative authority.
Party organs, members, and stakeholders were urged to strictly adhere to existing court judgments.
“The National Caretaker Committee remains the only legitimate national administrative body of the PDP until a properly convened National Convention is held,” NEC stated.
As part of preparations for the transition to an elected leadership, NEC approved a timetable for congresses across the country.
Ward and local government congresses are scheduled for February 2026, while state congresses will hold in March 2026.
The caretaker committee was instructed to issue comprehensive guidelines for the congresses in accordance with the PDP Constitution and INEC regulations.
The NEC also sanctioned extensions for caretaker committees at the national, state, and zonal levels until the completion of the congresses and National Convention.
The National Caretaker Committee was further mandated to begin immediate preparations for the convention, including the formation of sub-committees and coordination of logistics.
Calling for unity and discipline within the party, NEC urged members to remain loyal and committed, emphasizing that the PDP is focused on rebuilding a strong, stable, and competitive platform ahead of future elections.
The committee expressed confidence that the adopted resolutions would restore stability, deepen internal democracy, and reposition the party for electoral success.
