Civil society organizations (CSOs) in Kano State have commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for allocating a Hajj seat chair to the civil society community, describing the move as historic, inclusive, and unprecedented in the state’s governance history.
The commendation was contained in a statement issued by Comrade Sunusi Hashim, who noted that this is the first time a sitting governor in Kano State has officially extended such recognition to civil society organizations by offering them a Hajj opportunity to perform pilgrimage in Makkah.
According to him, the gesture highlights Governor Yusuf’s commitment to inclusive governance, recognition of grassroots stakeholders, and partnership with non-governmental actors contributing to community development across the state.
Comrade Hashim emphasized that civil society groups play critical roles in promoting accountability, humanitarian services, public health awareness, and social development, adding that the recognition would further motivate organizations to support government policies and people-centered programmes.
“This is the first of its kind. We sincerely appreciate Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for carrying everyone along and recognizing the role of civil society in Kano State,” he said.
He added that the decision reflects a leadership style anchored on participation and shared responsibility in governance, stressing that such support strengthens trust and cooperation between the government and the civic space.
Observers say the gesture has been widely welcomed by civic groups across the state, describing it as a morale booster and a signal of deeper engagement between the Kano State Government and civil society organizations.
The CSOs also offered prayers for divine guidance and continued success for the governor, while pledging to sustain collaboration with the state government in advancing social welfare and development initiatives in Kano State.
