The Secretary to the Government of the Federation SGF, George Akume, has called for stronger collaboration among Nigeria’s fiscal and oversight institutions to enhance transparency, accountability and prudent public financial management in line with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Akume made the call while receiving the management of the Fiscal Responsibility Commission, led by its Acting Executive Chairman, Charles Chukwuemeka Abana, during a courtesy visit in Abuja on Tuesday.
The SGF urged the Commission to strengthen collaboration with key government institutions, including the Federal Ministry of Finance, the Budget Office of the Federation, the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, the Debt Management Office and other relevant agencies to eliminate duplication of responsibilities and improve fiscal governance.
Describing the Fiscal Responsibility Commission as “a critical pillar in Nigeria’s fiscal governance architecture,” Akume stressed that fiscal discipline remains essential for achieving macroeconomic stability, ensuring debt sustainability and promoting the efficient management of public resources.
Earlier, Barrister Abana informed the SGF that the Commission monitored about ₦1.84 trillion in independent revenue as of September 2025 and has set a ₦2.5 trillion revenue target for 2026.
He also disclosed that the Commission has automated its Operating Surplus Calculation Template to improve efficiency, strengthen compliance and enhance revenue monitoring across government agencies.
