The Kano State Drugs and Medical Consumables Supply Agency (DMCSA) has unveiled its 2026 Annual Operational Plan (AOP), setting out a bold roadmap to strengthen pharmaceutical governance and ensure uninterrupted access to quality medicines across the state.
The disclosure was made by the Agency’s Director-General, Pharm. Gali Sule, during the Kano State Health Sector MDAs 2026 AOP Technical Review and Harmonization Workshop.

Highlighting the agency’s progress, Sule noted that drug availability in public health facilities has risen from 30% to over 90% in just two years under the ongoing reforms.
“The DMCSA 2026 Annual Operational Plan is anchored on sustainability, equity, and quality. Our aim is to guarantee that every health facility across the 44 Local Government Areas of Kano State enjoys uninterrupted access to qualitative and affordable medicines,”
According to Sule, the plan is built on several strategic pillars, including:
Sustaining drug availability across all public health facilities.
Enhancing procurement systems and distribution logistics.
Expanding drug coverage under the Drug Revolving Fund (DRF).
Ensuring transparency and accountability in the supply chain.
Conducting quarterly reviews and audits of drug stores and zonal warehouses.
Enforcing measures against drug diversion and mismanagement.
Strengthening cost recovery and fund sustainability.
Expanding community awareness on DMCSA activities.
Continuous training for supply chain personnel.
Also speaking, the Director of Drugs and Supply, Pharm. Tukur Ibrahim, emphasized that the 2026 AOP was jointly developed by the agency, development partners, and relevant stakeholders in line with national health policies and the State Strategic Health Development Plan II (SSHDP-II).

Kano DMCSA has earned recognition nationwide as a model in drug supply management, particularly for revitalizing the DRF scheme.
With the 2026 AOP, the agency aims to further position Kano State as a benchmark for transparent, accountable, and patient-centered pharmaceutical service delivery.
The wider 2026 health sector AOP was jointly developed through collaboration among officials from health, finance, planning, and budget ministries, alongside development partners.
The workshop, organized by the Kano State Ministry of Health, is supported by the UK Government’s FCDO Lafiya Programme and Sanhdef.
It is chaired by the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf.
