Jigawa State Police Command has disbursed ₦31,450,025.16 to the families of 59 police officers who lost their lives in active service.
This was disclosed in a statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, who noted that the initiative reflects the Nigeria Police Force’s ongoing commitment to the welfare of its personnel and their dependents.
The cheques were presented by Commissioner of Police, CP Dahiru Muhammad, on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, under the Group Life Assurance (GLA) and IGP Family Welfare Scheme.
Speaking during the presentation ceremony, CP Dahiru described the deceased officers as “heroes who laid down their lives in defense of peace, justice, and the unity of the nation.” He emphasized that their sacrifices would never be forgotten, adding that the Force remains dedicated to supporting the welfare of their families.
“This gesture is part of the IGP’s welfare initiative to provide financial relief and moral support to the families of officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty,” Dahiru said.
He urged the beneficiaries to use the funds wisely for the benefit of their families and dependents, while reaffirming the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to discipline, accountability, and personnel welfare.
CP Dahiru further assured that the Command would continue to implement initiatives aimed at boosting officers’ morale and promoting the well-being of both serving and retired personnel.
Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr. Surajo Shehu expressed heartfelt appreciation to the Inspector-General of Police and the Commissioner of Police, Jigawa Command, for their compassion and continued support.
He pledged that the funds would be used responsibly to sustain the legacy and honor the memory of the late officers.
