The Vice-Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano (BUK), Professor Haruna Musa, has received the Award of Excellence in Good Leadership, Services to Science and Biosafety in Nigeria from the Nigerian Biological Safety Association (NiBSA).
The award was presented to the Vice-Chancellor during the 9th Annual Conference and Annual General Meeting of NiBSA held at Candellux Imperial Hotel and Suites, Area 1, Garki, Abuja.

The four-day conference, brought together scientists, researchers, policymakers, academics and biosafety professionals from across Nigeria to deliberate on emerging issues in biological safety, biosecurity and public health.
The conference was themed, “Enhancing Biosafety and Biosecurity Management: Leveraging Artificial Intelligence for Resilient Health Systems.”

Discussions at the conference focused on strengthening Nigeria’s biosafety framework through innovation and technology, with attention to AI-enabled health security, intelligent laboratory biosafety systems, emergency preparedness and cyber biosecurity for protecting biological data and digital health infrastructure.
Professor Haruna Musa was recognised for his leadership and contributions to scientific advancement, as well as his commitment to promoting biosafety practices within Nigeria’s higher education and research sector.

The conference featured the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Abuja, Professor Hakeem Babatunde Fawehinmi, as the keynote speaker.
Professor Haruna Musa also served as Chairman of the Occasion, highlighting his involvement in efforts to promote scientific development and biosafety in Nigeria.
