The Kano State House of Assembly has commenced a four-day strategic retreat for its members and management staff in Kaduna State, aimed at promoting legislative inclusiveness and strengthening good governance.
The retreat, which began on Thursday, is organised by the Assembly in collaboration with SAHL Human Resource and is designed to enhance the capacity of lawmakers and legislative staff for improved service delivery.
In a statement issued by the Speaker’s Chief Press Secretary, Kamaluddeen Sani Shawai, the Speaker of the Assembly, Rt. Hon. Jibril Ismail Falgore, said the retreat underscores the Assembly’s commitment to building a more effective, transparent, and accountable legislature.
Falgore commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for his unwavering support for democratic institutions and legislative capacity-building initiatives in the state.
According to the Speaker, the Governor’s continued investment in strengthening the legislature demonstrates a clear understanding of its critical role in promoting good governance, accountability, and sustainable development.
He reaffirmed the Assembly’s commitment to transparency, accountability, diligence, and the enactment of people-oriented laws that will advance the development and prosperity of Kano State.
Also speaking, the Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Muhammad Bello Butu-Butu, praised Governor Yusuf for fostering a cordial relationship between the executive and legislative arms of government through sustained support for institutional capacity building.
He assured the people of Kano State that the Assembly would continue to deliver quality legislation and effective oversight in accordance with the provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The retreat features presentations on legislative research, effective management of legislative documents, the Code of Conduct for Public Officers, preparation of legacy reports, executive-legislative relations, and other issues aimed at improving legislative performance.
Resource persons include Professor Aminu Umar of the Department of Political Science, National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), and Dahiru Idris of Bayero University, Kano.
According to the organisers, the retreat is expected to equip lawmakers and management staff with the knowledge and tools needed to strengthen institutional memory, improve accountability, facilitate leadership transition, and enhance the effectiveness of legislative service delivery.
