The Director of Sports at Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology (ADUSTECH), Wudil, Abdulsalam Abubakar Shandy, has commended participating faculties for their support and cooperation as the institution commenced its annual inter-faculty sports competition, the Vice Chancellor Cup.
Speaking during the opening ceremony at the university’s sports complex, Abdulsalam said the tournament is designed to discover and nurture sporting talents while strengthening unity and cordial relationships among students, coaches, staff, and the university management.
He noted that the competition serves as an important platform for identifying athletes who will represent the university in future local and national sporting events.
The Sports Director, a former player of Jigawa Golden Stars Football Club and former Chief Coach of Calabar United Football Club, expressed appreciation to the university management under the leadership of the Vice Chancellor, Professor Musa Tukur Yakasai, for its continued support towards sports development.
He urged students to take advantage of the competition to improve their skills and prepare for higher-level competitions.
“As we approach the 2026 Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA) Games, scheduled to take place in Calabar, Cross River State, in November, we must all work together to ensure the university is well prepared to make a strong impact at the championship,” he said.
Abdulsalam disclosed that performances at the Vice Chancellor Cup would form the basis for selecting athletes to represent ADUSTECH at the NUGA zonal qualifiers and the national championship.
He explained that six faculties would compete in the beach volleyball event. They include the Faculty of Education, Faculty of Science, Faculty of Environmental Sciences, Faculty of Computing, Faculty of Agriculture, and Faculty of Engineering.
The Vice Chancellor, Professor Musa Tukur Yakasai, is expected to attend the closing ceremony as the Special Guest of Honour.
