Members of the Kebbi State House of Assembly have unanimously elected Hon. Salihu Maikasuwa Dangoje, representing Sakaba Constituency, as the new Speaker of the Assembly.
Dangoje’s emergence follows the death of the former Speaker, Hon. Muhammad Usman Zuru, who passed away on April 6, 2026, creating a leadership vacancy in the state legislature.
The election took place during plenary, where Hon. Adamu Muhammad Birnin-Yauri, representing Ngaski Constituency, nominated Dangoje for the position. In his remarks, Birnin-Yauri described the new Speaker as a legislator of proven integrity and vast experience, noting that he has served in the Assembly for 11 years.
According to him, Dangoje’s extensive legislative background and commitment to public service make him well-suited to lead the Assembly at this critical period.
Following his unanimous election and swearing-in, the new Speaker expressed appreciation to his colleagues for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to provide inclusive leadership.
He assured members of his commitment to carrying everyone along in the legislative process while working to strengthen the Assembly’s role in promoting good governance and development in Kebbi State.
Dangoje, who emerged through the Assembly’s zoning arrangement, hails from Kebbi South Senatorial District. Before his election as Speaker, he held several key positions within the legislature, including serving as Chairman of the House Committee on Information.
His election marks a new chapter for the Kebbi State House of Assembly as lawmakers seek to sustain legislative stability and continuity following the loss of the late Speaker.
