Muhammad Bello Dalhatu has emerged as the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kano State after defeating Muhammad Sani Abacha, the eldest son of the late former Head of State, General Sani Abacha, in the party’s primary election.
Announcing the results, the Chairman of the PDP Kano State Governorship Primary Election Committee, Umar Danjani Hadejia, said the exercise was conducted peacefully and in line with the party’s constitution and electoral guidelines.
He stated that the election, which was held to select the party’s flagbearer for the forthcoming governorship election in Kano State, was transparent and hitch-free.
According to the result announced, Muhammad Sani Abacha polled 749 votes, while Muhammad Bello Dalhatu scored 2,233 votes to emerge winner of the contest.
“Having scored the highest number of valid votes cast, Alhaji Muhammad Bello Dalhatu was duly declared the winner of the PDP governorship primary election and consequently returned as the party’s candidate for Kano State,” Danjani said.
He added that the committee commended all aspirants, delegates, party officials, security agencies, and stakeholders for their maturity, cooperation, and commitment throughout the exercise.
The committee also urged party members to unite and work collectively to ensure victory for the PDP in the forthcoming general elections in Kano State.
