The Technical Adviser to the Kano State Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Aminu Magashi Garba, has donated relief materials to inmates of the Bichi Female Rehabilitation Centre following the destruction caused by a recent rainstorm.
Dr. Magashi, accompanied by officials of the Kano State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) led by its Executive Secretary, Alhaji Isyaku Abdullahi Kubarachi, visited the facility.

During the visit, he interacted with staff and inmates before donating blankets, food items and essential drugs to support those affected by the disaster.
The delegation observed that the heavy rainfall had blown off the roofs of several female hostels and damaged sections of the perimeter fence, raising safety and security concerns.
Dr. Magashi commended SEMA for relocating the female inmates to a secure section of the Bichi Male Rehabilitation Centre pending the rehabilitation of the damaged facility.
According to SEMA, the temporary relocation was undertaken to safeguard the lives and welfare of the inmates while repair works are carried out.
Dr. Magashi pledged to support SEMA and the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation in convening a stakeholders’ meeting aimed at strengthening emergency response mechanisms and mobilising additional support from government, non-governmental organisations and development partners for the management of the state’s 13 rehabilitation centres.
He noted that he had previously visited six of the rehabilitation centres, where he donated food items and medicines to inmates and supported a one-day capacity-building programme for health workers serving across the facilities.

Dr. Magashi also expressed appreciation to the Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, for appointing him as Technical Adviser to the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation.
