Africa Gas Transport Company Limited, AfricaGTC, and Dutch clean-energy company, Energy Ventures B.V., are set to pilot a project aimed at converting Nigeria’s flared gas into useful energy and economic value.
The initiative, with Afrinvest Capital serving as financial adviser to Energy Ventures, will involve the deployment of the FlareOut® solution at the Agbada-2 site near Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

AfricaGTC, the Nigerian subsidiary of Energy Ventures, was established to develop the FlareOut® project in Nigeria and facilitate local partnerships for its implementation.
The company said the pilot project would capture, process and utilise associated gas that would otherwise be wasted through flaring.
According to the companies, the FlareOut® technology is designed to harness gas from small-scale flaring sites and convert it into liquefied petroleum gas, LPG, while reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
A team from Energy Ventures is expected to visit Nigeria to inspect the project site, engage with executives of the Port Harcourt Distribution Company Limited and meet officials of the Federal Ministry of Power in Abuja.

The Director of AfricaGTC, Herbert Okibe, said the engagement was aimed at building partnerships to demonstrate how routinely flared gas could be converted into clean energy and economic value for communities.
Also speaking, the Managing Director of Afrinvest Capital, Jessica Essien, said the visit was intended to draw the attention of energy stakeholders, regulators and investors to the FlareOut® investment opportunity.
The companies said the deployment of the technology could provide on-site electricity and LPG to communities with limited access to clean energy.
They added that carbon-credit revenues could provide an additional source of income and improve the economic viability of FlareOut® projects.

AfricaGTC said it is registered with the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission, NUPRC, and the National Council on Climate Change, NCCC, to develop the FlareOut® pilot project in Nigeria.
The company said the modular FlareOut® system is housed in a standard shipping container and is designed to capture and process gas from small-scale flaring sites, with the aim of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and improving access to energy in underserved communities.
