The Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS), Sokoto State Branch, has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening collaboration with the Sokoto State Ministry of Health to improve healthcare delivery and humanitarian services across the state.
The commitment was made during a courtesy visit by officials of the Society to the Commissioner for Health at the Ministry of Health in Sokoto.
Speaking during the visit, the Branch Secretary of the Nigerian Red Cross Society said the engagement was aimed at reinforcing the long-standing partnership between the organisation and the Ministry.
He described the Red Cross as an auxiliary to government, complementing public efforts in healthcare delivery and humanitarian response.
The Branch Secretary highlighted some of the Society’s ongoing health interventions, including the implementation of the Malnutrition Emergency Appeal Programme (MEAP), which commenced in September 2025 to improve nutrition outcomes among vulnerable communities.
He disclosed that the Sokoto State Branch had donated 400 cartons of Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) to the state government and is currently supporting nutrition services in nine Outpatient Therapeutic Programme (OTP) centres across the state.
Responding, the Sokoto State Commissioner for Health commended the Nigerian Red Cross Society for its sustained humanitarian contributions and reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to supporting organisations working to improve the health and well-being of residents.
The Commissioner described the Red Cross as a globally respected humanitarian organisation with a legacy spanning more than a century and assured the delegation of the Ministry’s readiness to strengthen collaboration in areas of mutual interest.
The visit ended with both parties expressing their commitment to deepening cooperation to enhance healthcare delivery, nutrition services and humanitarian interventions in Sokoto State.
