Nigeria and the European Union (EU) have discussed ways of strengthening bilateral relations and expanding cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
The commitment was made when the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, received the EU Ambassador to Nigeria and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), Gautier Mignot, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The discussions focused on a broad range of issues, including developments in West Africa, Nigeria’s forthcoming general elections, migration and mobility, security, multilateral cooperation and sustainable development.
The two diplomats also discussed preparations for upcoming high-level engagements between Nigeria and the European Union.

Ambassador Odumegwu-Ojukwu welcomed the EU’s continued engagement with Nigeria and stressed the need to translate existing partnerships into practical programmes and measurable outcomes that align with Nigeria’s development priorities.
She highlighted the importance of sustained dialogue on security, migration, economic development and democratic governance, among other areas of shared interest.
The Minister and the EU Ambassador agreed on the need for regular consultations, increased high-level engagements and stronger use of existing mechanisms to deepen cooperation.

They also emphasised the importance of timely communication and effective follow-up through established diplomatic channels to facilitate the implementation of agreed outcomes.
The engagement highlights the broad scope of Nigeria-EU relations and the shared objective of strengthening existing partnerships in pursuit of common development and diplomatic interests.
