The White Heart Development Initiative has welcomed the arrest of three suspects in connection with the murder of a mother and her six children in Kano, describing the development as an important step toward justice.
In a statement signed by its Executive Director, Khadija Aliyu Ammani, the organisation said the arrests should mark the beginning of a thorough and uncompromising legal process, stressing that the case must not be allowed to fade without full prosecution.
The group condemned the killings in strong terms, describing the incident as a grave violation of human rights and a stark reminder of the growing insecurity faced by women and children.
“No society can claim progress while mothers and children remain unsafe in their own communities,” the statement said, urging authorities to treat the matter with the seriousness it deserves.
White Heart Development Initiative commended the swift action of the Nigeria Police Force, Kano State Command, and called for a transparent, comprehensive, and time-bound investigation that would lead to the prosecution of all those involved.
The organisation warned against any form of interference or delay, insisting that justice must be decisive and serve as a deterrent to future acts of violence.
Beyond the ongoing investigation, the group urged government at all levels to strengthen child protection systems, improve community security, and enforce policies aimed at preventing violence against women and children.
“Accountability must be matched with prevention. Silence, negligence, or inaction will only perpetuate cycles of violence,” the statement added.
The organisation reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for safer communities where women and children can live without fear, and expressed solidarity with the bereaved family.
It prayed for the repose of the victims’ souls and for strength for their loved ones to bear the loss.
