President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the reconstitution of the Board of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), following the Senate’s confirmation of its members on December 16, 2025, ending speculation about the confirmation of Engineer Ramat to serve as the chairman of the Commission.
The new Board, which assumes office from December 1, 2025, includes seasoned professionals and experts tasked with deepening reforms and consolidating ongoing transformation in Nigeria’s power sector under the Electricity Act, 2023.
Key Appointments
Dr. Mulisiu Olalekan Oseni — Chairman
Dr. Oseni, a former Commissioner and Vice Chairman since 2017, assumes the Chairmanship and will serve until the completion of his ten-year tenure.
Dr. Yusuf Ali — Vice Chairman
Dr. Ali, who joined NERC in 2022, becomes Vice Chairman for the duration of his first term.
The Board also includes Mr. Nathan Rogers Shatti, Mr. Dafe Akpeneye, Aisha Mahmud Kanti Bello, Dr. Chidi Ike, and Dr. Fouad Animashaun, all bringing extensive experience in energy regulation and sector management.
President Tinubu directed the newly constituted NERC Board to drive efficiency, investment, and innovation in the power sector, in alignment with the provisions and spirit of the Electricity Act, 2023.
The development marks a significant reshuffle within NERC, with the removal of Engineer Ramat from Kano signaling a shift in leadership as the administration continues efforts to reform Nigeria’s electricity industry.
